How to Write Product Descriptions That Convert Buyers
A strong product description gives buyers enough information to act without exaggerating. It should support the photographs, clarify condition and make the offer easy to understand.
Open with the essentials
State the exact product, brand, model, size, colour and quantity. If the item is used, say so early. Do not make shoppers search through a long story for basic facts.
Explain benefits with evidence
Describe what a feature helps the buyer do, but avoid unsupported superlatives. For example, mention useful compartments, compatible models or a compact size when these can be verified.
Use a simple structure
A practical order is:
Product overview
Condition
Measurements or specifications
What is included
Delivery and returns information
Short paragraphs and bullet points are easier to scan on mobile.
Describe condition precisely
Replace vague terms such as “good for age” with observable facts. Mention scratches, fading, missing packaging, repairs and whether the item has been tested. Point buyers to the relevant photographs.
Include measurements
Sizes vary between brands and years. Provide garment measurements, furniture dimensions or cable lengths where useful. State whether measurements are approximate.
List what is included
Clarify whether chargers, batteries, manuals, boxes or accessories are present. Do not show props in photographs without making clear that they are excluded.
Use relevant search language naturally
Include the terms a buyer would use, but avoid repeating keywords unnaturally. The title and item specifics usually carry the most important search data; the description should help a person decide.
Proofread before publishing
Check model numbers, spelling, dimensions and postage details. Reusing a template is efficient, but remove information left over from another product.
Accurate descriptions may feel less dramatic than sales copy, but they build confidence. Buyers who know exactly what to expect are more likely to be satisfied when the order arrives.
